A resigned people. By now you can feel the neglect, the thoughtlessness, the resignation

It’s a decaying, peeling world.

A resigned people. By now you can feel the neglect, the thoughtlessness, the resignation
A resigned people. In all likelihood, however, it was never what I imagined it to be…

Until a few years ago, I was proud to be Italian.
I liked to feel a part of what I naively thought was a great country.

I liked Italy, I liked Italians.

Although I noticed many flaws, I thought they were generous, kind, and tolerant of cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity.

In all likelihood, however, it was never what I imagined it to be.

Now, when I open (more and more rarely) a news portal about Italy, I feel almost a situation of discouragement and annoyance.

It is as if a restaurant where we used to eat well has changed management and become just another McDonald’s, as if instead of a quiet bench in the middle of a green park there is now a public toilet.

I don’t know if the same thing happens to other people, but my sense of discomfort with this degradation is really strong and growing.

It’s a decaying, peeling world where the debris is falling off the wall and no one is doing anything about it.
This is the feeling that frightens me the most.

By now you can clearly see the neglect, the apathy and the resignation of people who have lost all hope and have become a resigned people without identity, people who have no dreams except to win the lottery or to participate in a reality show.

Exactly the same as in any so-called third world country.
