October 17, 2024 Reflections of a heretic
It becomes the most important thing he has when he realizes it is gone.
The most important toy. He only wants this one, not others
A child often cries and despairs for a new toy.
When he finally gets it, a bright smile immediately lights up his face.
He plays with it until “his” toy breaks.
And the loss becomes so important that he considers it the most beautiful of all the ones he has.
He wants only that one, not others, and attempts to try to console him by buying others, even more beautiful ones, become futile.
The parents then buy a new toy for him, exactly the same as the previous one; the child accepts it only if he is convinced that it is really the fixed original and not another new one.
Then he plays with it for a while, until he gets tired of it and throws it away with the others.
But the child doesn’t forget it ; on the contrary, even though he doesn’t play with it anymore, he checks to see if it’s missing among all the others.
And when he notices that it is gone, it becomes the most important of all his possessions.
