November 4, 2024 Reflections of a heretic
Urbanites are not born, they become.
Urbanites. Our society has accepted a decidedly unbalanced pattern of living
A life of expectations.
Unfulfilled desires.
Dreams of escape from reality.
Our society has accepted a decidedly unbalanced way of life.
Consumption, possession, the stunting of oblivion.

Unfortunately, there are too many people who go so far as to live their lives with mediocrity, enjoying the misfortunes of others and gnawing at their own successes.
Among these icons, I consider the following characteristics :
Listless
Dissolute
Apparent
I personally call them “urbanites”.
In fact, they are extremely common in large metropolises, where life has been changed by false values and, above all, simplicity has been lost.
In some cases, the “urbanites” may have a good (but exclusively neurotic) will, subordinated to very specific purposes that are essential for his or her fulfillment.
They have not been taught to love their bodies, they are sedentary, always looking for short cuts to stay alive.
Symptomatic drugs for his many “minor” ailments, drugs to get high every now and then, cigarettes or alcohol to calm himself down or to feel high.
The myths of modern society : luxury, wealth, success, cannot be given up, of course.
They have no strength or will to rise, convinced that there is no alternative to a life that is not terrible, but definitely not the greatest.
Urbanites are not born, but become urbanites.
There are many “educational” environments and strands that predispose to the creation of this kind of “personality.”
The most common are the television programs that promote the pursuit of success and fame, which fool people into thinking they can achieve happiness and existential fulfillment.
But there are many others.
The typical comment is : “Everybody does it,” which of course lacks logic.
For example, a young person from a non-affluent family who spends hundreds of dollars a year on a new smartphone : when he grows up, he will be the adult who goes into debt for a house mortgage, payments on his dream car, and vacations to luxury resorts.
And he will become one of those so-called successful losers that are so in vogue today.
